The Impact of the Typhoon
Typhoon Tra Mi has caused heavy rainfall and flooding in Central Vietnam, affecting a large (7) of residents across the region. The memories of past natural disasters couldn't (8) the fear and anxiety that people have been experiencing. This increase can make it tough for students and young workers to manage their budgets, especially when they are just starting out.
One reason for these higher costs is that big cities attract people from all over the country, (19) . With more people moving to cities for job opportunities, there is a constant push for better housing, schools, and entertainment. As a result, businesses often raise their prices to meet this demand, making everything from groceries to rent more expensive. (20) .
Additionally, services like transportation and healthcare are often more costly in cities. Basic needs (21) . For many, these extra expenses can lead to financial stress, especially for those who are new to city life. By understanding these factors, (22) .

Having teenagers confined to home during the coronavirus crisis may not be as difficult as being holed up with small children, but it definitely has its challenges. While younger children may be excited about having parental attention 24/7, adolescents are likely to feel differently.
The first challenge with teens and young adults may be getting them to comply with the guidelines for social distancing. Teenagers tend to feel invincible and they may think that the new coronavirus is not as problematic for their age range as it is for older people. Parents are reporting a lot of pushback when teens are told they cannot go out and get together with friends because they simply do not see why social distancing should apply to them.
Another problem that may put parents under pressure is how to help kids with remote learning. With younger children, it's mostly a matter of finding fun activities that can be educational. But with older students, keeping up with expectations from school from home can be challenging, especially for those with ADHD, learning disorders or organization issues. "I'm completely overwhelmed by trying to figure out how to structure a school day," said a mother. "I was never planning on home-schooling my kids. I don't have training in this."
One more issue that parents may have to resolve is helping adolescents cope with disappointments. For many, the most painful part of the coronavirus crisis will be losing important experiences like extra-curricular events and ceremonies in school. Some will also be worried about missing activities expected to help them with college applications and scholarships. And while we're all missing out on very valued activities, it's especially problematic for teenagers who are always seeking new frontiers to be limited in this way.

[I] Many workers spend large parts of their day on in-person or virtual meetings. [II] However, much of that time is wasted. [III] One 2019 survey of 1,945 workers found that 67% of respondents felt that too many meetings harmed their impact at work. [IV] Furthermore, multiple studies have shown that meetings keep most senior managers from completing their tasks, with executives wasting nearly 23 hours a week on them instead of doing their work.
While meetings can enable teams to brainstorm, align thinking and take decisive action, they usually fall short of expectations. "There are so many issues: a lack of meaningful training and feedback on how well they're run, as well as not enough facilitation from leaders to ensure everyone is contributing," says Steven Rogelberg at the University of North Carolina. Bad meetings also affect employees' workday. An example of this is "meeting recovery syndrome", where workers have to take time to restore their mental energy after a meeting, which consequently dents their productivity.
It's no surprise, then, that some companies have banned meetings, either permanently or for specific days each week. Many start-ups which often employ remote workers in different time zones have begun to prioritise efficient asynchronous communication rather than live calls. Asana, a start-up that provides work-management tools to businesses, has a meeting ban on Wednesdays. This is "a commitment to focus and flow", says Anne Raimondi, Asana's chief operating officer. "From designers, to programmers, to customer-facing employees – you always have some work that you can only get into and complete with uninterrupted blocks of time."
Another company called The Soul Publishing has gone to more extreme lengths with its ban on meetings. Internal emails are also prohibited, meaning its workers can focus nearly exclusively on work. Rather than direct calls, written communication in programs like Slack is encouraged. "We use platforms optimised for asynchronous communication," explains Victor Potrel, an executive of the company. "It means information is transparent, concise and can be accessed by anyone - whenever and wherever they are. Business has evolved, and we've lound better and newer tools to manage and organise information."
Nonetheless, Potrel, does not believe all of this means that employees will miss out on human connections. "When people focus on the task at hand, they form professional relationships," he says. "They interact with others towards the same goal and can still meet outside of work. You don't need socialised moments in meetings for people to feel connected."
