Good morning. Welcome to our Fun Science Program. This week we have received a lot of questions about life on the moon. We have talked to some experts and these are what we have (17) out. There is no water or air on the moon. It is all silent (18) there is no air. Of course, there will be no music, no sounds. There are no rivers and no lakes. At night, it is very cold. The (19) goes down to 151oC below zero. But during the day, it rises to 100oC above zero.
There are great round holes on the moon. They are called craters. There are more than 30,000 of them. There are also high mountains. The (20) mountains on the moon are about 26,000 feet or 8.000 meters.
And here is something verry interesting for you (21) : on the moon, you weigh one sixth of what you weigh on the earth. If you weigh 50 kilos on the moon, you will weigh only a little more than 8 kilos. You will be able to jump very high, (22) higher than any high jump Olympic champions. You can take very long steps as well. And maybe you won’t sleep very well because one day on the moon lasts two weeks. So, is there life on the moon? Of all the holidays, I think the best is Mother’s Day. It is very special to a rather big family like mine. I realize how much Mother has done for years, and all the wonderful things she has done for her children. So this year Father, my two sisters and I. the only boy in the family, decided to make Mother’s Day a special occasion for our Mother. Father took a holiday from his office; my sisters and I came home from school after lunch. We planned to make it a day just like Christmas. We decorated the house with colorful flowers, candles and a small greeting over the fireplace. Mother usually did so at Christmas by herself. My sisters dressed themselves in their best. Father wore the new tie that Mother had bought for him on his birthday. I was so excited with the idea that I was the person who bought Mother a new silk hat from the money Father had secretly given to me before. We wanted to give Mother a big surprise. We hired a motor car which would take US all for a beautiful drive into the country nearby. Mother rarely had a treat like that. She is busy cooking and cleaning almost all the time. And of course, the country would be so lovely, the driving over miles of greenery in the country would be specially exciting to Mother. Mother deserved them all.
