Hi everyone! I want to tell you about a person that I really admire and had a chance to meet last year – Haile Gebrselassie, a champion marathon runner.
Haile Gebrselassie was born and grew up in Asella, Ethiopia and ___(1)___. He displayed fantastic talent and commitment on his path to success and quickly rose to tame in the sporting world. However, that doesn't mean that it was easy for Haile to achieve greatness. When Haile was a child, he lived on a farm in a rural area, and he had no access to transport services. In order to get an education, ___(2)___ while carrying his books. This was a tough challenge for Haile. He had no interest in running at first however, he used the experience as regular training for his success.
People soon spotted Haile's astonishing speed and running ability, and ___(3)___ when he got a place in the Ethiopian national athletics team. Even though he hadn't had any real training before that, he quickly found success, and by 1998, he had become the world record holder in the 10,000 metres race. Haile then became a specialist in long-distance running. ___(4)___.
Haile is famous for his unique and unusual running style. Even as an adult, he ran with one elbow pointing out as tough he was still carrying his school books. He is an amazing person, and from his success, we can all learn an important lesson: "Whichever background people come from, ___(5)___ if they by hard and believe in themselves."
