My name’s Sally. Last Saturday, Bill, my favourite uncle, came to see us. He had a big square box in his car He picked it up carefully and carried it to our garden. ‘What’s in the box?’ we asked. He said, ‘What do you think?’
My brother John said, ‘Some toys? and I said, ‘Some cakes?’
‘No,’ Bill said. ‘It’s not that.’
We had lunch and then Bill said, ‘I’d like to go shopping now!’

Bill bought lots of things in our village. He came out of the first shop
with two round boxes. Then he went to the pet shop and came out with
a third box. It was bigger than the first two. Bill had to carry them home. ‘What’s inside? It’s very exciting!’ I said, ‘You must wait and see, Sally,’

In our garden, Bill said, ‘Open the boxes now.’ Mum opened the square
one. There was a beautiful white duck inside! I opened the round ones.
There was one bowl for the duck’s water and another for its food. John
opened the biggest box. It was a duck’s house.
‘Thanks, Uncle Bill,’ we laughed. ‘Now we can have eggs for breakfast
every morning!’

hot. ‘No school for you today!’ his mother said. ‘You can have breakfast
in bed.’ John wasn’t very hungry. He only had some fruit and some
orange juice. ‘Now you must sleep,’ his mum said.

In our garden, Bill said, ‘Open the boxes now.’ Mum opened the square

the cupboard in the living room and went back upstairs. Then his mother
phoned ‘Is John OK now?’ she asked. ‘Is he steeping?’ ‘Sleeping?’ said his

On Sunday, Jim went to the mountains with his parents. In the afternoon, it snowed. At home that evening, Jim wasn’t very well. ‘You’ve got a temperature, Jim!’ his mum said. ‘Have some soup and then go to bed.’ But he didn’t want any soup. He wasn’t hungry.

Bill and Nick took the ball with them because they wanted to play with it in the water. But it was difficult because they couldn’t stand up very well. Then they tried to find sea animals at the bottom of the sea. Nick
pointed at something near a big shell. Bill picked it up and then they
swam back to the beach. ‘It’s your T-shirt, Nick!’ Bill shouted. They looked at the big rock but their clothes weren’t there! Then they saw their red towels in the water too!

They found all their things in the sea and got dressed again. They waited
for a bus but it didn’t come. In the end, they phoned their mum and she
came in the car and drove them home. They were very cold and wet but
their mum gave them a hot drink and then they talked and laughed
about their day.
