David is eleven, and he has two older brothers, Peter and Paul, who like tennis. ‘Come and have a game of tennis with us,’ they say every day.
But David never goes because he doesn’t enjoy playing tennis. He likes playing computer games better. He plays them all day. His mother often
says to him, ‘David, don’t sit in the house at the computer. Go and play in the park with your brothers.’ But David doesn’t want to.

One weekend, David played on his computer all day Saturday, but on Sunday morning, he wanted to do something different. So, David phoned his friend Nick and then rode to his house on his bike. Nick had lots of good games in his bedroom. They played there all morning. Then they had a nice
lunch — some cheese sandwiches and o drink of orange juice.

On Sunday evening, David’s mother said, ‘What did you do with Nick?
Did you play tennis?’ ‘Yes,’ said David. We plcned after lunch with his
two sisters.’ ‘That’s good, David,’ said his mother. ‘It was sunny and hot
all day.’ ‘Was it?’ asked David. ‘I didn’t go outside.’ ‘You did,’ said his
brothers. ‘You played tennis!’ ‘Ah! But we played inside,’ laughed David.

Last weekend, Daisy and I went to our grandparents’ house. On Saturday morning, we walked to the lake. There are lots of fish in the lake and Grandpa caught ten for our lunch. After lunch, Grandma sat outside on the grass and Grandpa went to steep on his bed. She said to us, ‘Why don’t you and Daisy go sailng now?’ ‘OK,’ we said ‘Good idea, Grandma!’ And we did.

We sailed in Grandpa’s small boat. Its name is ‘Blue Bird’. We went to the
small island on the lake. Sailing was easy. We talked about sharks and
dolphins. When we got near the island, we saw a person on one of the
rocks. He was a pirate! He saw us in our boat and shouted ‘Hello!’ very loudly.

Daisy was afraid. She wanted to go back home, but I wanted to see the
pirate. ‘Come on, Daisy! It’s exciting!’ I said. The pirate smiled and told
us has name and then gave us some fruit to eat.
He wanted to find some
treasure for us, but the only thing that we found there was an old shoe!
We said ‘Goodbye’ to our new pirate friend and then went home. It was a
great day!

It was Daisy’s ninth birthday. Her friends and family gave her lots of cards
and different presents.
The best present was the new computer which her
parents gave her.
‘The toys in my bedroom are old,’ Daisy said. ‘I don’t want them now.’ She gave them to her younger sister, Anna, One of the toys was a very old doll with long, curly blonde hair.

After dinner, Daisy was very tired and she went to bed. She was very
sad. There weren’t any toys in her toy box now — only one old comic. She
tried to read it but she couldn’t.
She tried to play with the cat but it
didn’t want to play. She tried to sleep but she was afraid. She wanted her old doll. She got up arid went quietly to Anna’s bedroom to find it.

Her old doll was on the bookcase. She stood on a chair and took it down
carefully. Daisy carried the doll back to her bedroom and put it in her
bed. She was happy again and went to sleep very quickly. In the morning, Daisy said to Anna, ‘Can my old doll sleep in my room?’ Anna smiled and said, ‘Yes!’
