Such behaviors indicate a form of maternal affection. Another case showing emotional complexity in reptiles can be found in red-footed turtles. These creatures show signs of distress when handled roughly or placed in unfamiliar environments. Even snakes, often considered solitary and indifferent, show strong emotional reactions. When showing aggression, they tend to hiss, coil and shake their tails. With a wealth of aforementioned evidence and extensive studies, scientists hope that reptiles can be protected from habitat loss in the coming years.
